Engaging Each Day with Action Words

Nod. — Channeling Sally Field’s Oscar Speech just a little

on November 9, 2012

I am so excited, I can barely stand it.

I woke up this morning, with a very cool nod from a fellow blogger that I enjoy reading.  You know one of those cool, hip, young kids do it, kind of nods. The kind where you have to move your head up instead of down.  Imagine the classic, “Whassup?” goes along with it.

At any rate, this is quite the honor!  To be nominated for a One Lovely Blog Award by the lovely and delightful,  BonneVivanteLife  — Thank you so much!  You. You are Awesome and have made me feel so welcome!  Thank you BonneVivanteLife  and you should all know that it took her exactly 31 words, earlier this week, to change my entire day!

Now I reveal myself as a list maker–my required action steps for this honor:

1) thank the person who gave it to me,  √

Seven things you folks might not know about me…that should be easy since I’m fairly new to the neighborhood. Here goes:

1.  Born. I was born in California.  In Virginia, that makes me exotic and means The Beach Boys wrote that song about me.

2. Obsess. When I like something, I mean–I really like it. I swear I’m not a hoarder, but I do have every Monkees album (yes, album, not cd) and every TV episode taped on…wait for it…Beta tapes! Yeaaaaahhhhh. Just sayin’.

3.  Clean.  During exam week in college, back in the day, we always had the cleanest apartment. This is because when I’m stressed out, my first response is to clean.  We also ate really well those weeks, because my roommate’s reaction to stress was cooking four course meals!  To this day, to stress means we should first clean up, then two, eat and eat.

4. Appreciate. Favorite TV show ever (well, after The Monkees?!)  Yeah. You know it. Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  Yes, I promise I’m not a 14 year old boy.  I discovered Buffy and the rest of the Scoobies later in life.  But I just like the way they  (read: Joss Whedon) could say a Dawson’s Creek monologue in just a word or two.  And this is from a gal who appreciated a little bit of Pacey growing up, too. Who’s with me!?

5.  Lift. I love my crossfit style gym and I love to lift weights.  Heavy weights. To borrow from a fellow blogger whom I will mention in just a little bit: Deadlift. It’s my superpower.   True Story. I’m kind of a big deal (in my own mind) when it comes to the deadlift.

6.  Sew. So.So. Well, I have a sewing machine and I know how to use it.  But I really can’t make clothes or anything.  Instead, in the past 10 years, I started  a baby blanket business (which sold none, but did give me a lifetime supply of baby shower gifts!) I also made and sold over $600 worth of sock monkeys at a local street fair many moons ago!  Sock Monkeys are kind of my thing.

7.  Aspire. I have a lot of ideas. I have a lot of dreams. I have a lot of things I want to do, to be able to do. I want to aspire to do each and every one of these.  And along the way, wouldn’t it be cool to inspire a few someones?!

Shew! This is work! Good work!

2) share 7 possible things that are unknown about me, √

Nominate. And now, nominating 15 of my favorite bloggers:  (in no particular order and I’m new to this, so I’ve probably messed it up, but know I mean only the best! I don’t always make a splash in their worlds, but they should know that I have felt the quiet ripples of their words in my little space. So here goes):

1.  Tell it like it is nutrition and fitness advice.  I find her inspirational in an anti-guru, good to be in awe of  her strength and point of view, kind of way. Love it.       And I need one of her t-shirts, soon. “40 is the new BadAss.”

2.  Doing good work in the world right now,  as Monkee warriors.

3.  The name says it all. And someof my favorite words after all. AND, I appreciate those morning hours, too. Get up. Get it done. Be intentional.

4.  She’s been helping Moms lose that baby weight; now she’s enjoying her own cuddly baby days (and her chocolate!)

5.  Great, easy, clean-eatin’ going on here.  Letting her Mini-Chef be a part of the cooking fun!

6.  intentional parenting. Yeah. Let’s Do that.

7.  He is at the gym every morning at 5 a.m. No. Matter. What. His take on weight loss and fitness makes me smile.  No nonsense in a nonsensical kind of way. That completely makes sense.

8.  teeheehee…”Let’s Pretend This Never Happened!”

9. (ok, shameless plug for my best friend/partner/hubby’s business!) Check this one out, I guest blogged for them– I’m kinda proud of that one.

10.  SuperNutrition. SuperBrave. I’m keeping her close right now.

11.  Yeah. Do That. Don’t Eat Crap.

12.  She’s getting ready to hike the AT. I like a gal with BIG plans.

13.  Great advice for trying to keep your kiddos away from processed crap food, even when everybody else is doing it.

14.  I love a recent post: Try-Curious. That’s me.

15.  Now, she just makes me laugh out loud, all sporky and all.

3) nominate 15 bloggers, √

4) notify the nominees of their nomination.

Ok. I will go. Do That.

Oh, just dealing with a little trapeze envy! This is now the 2nd time you have shown up after a frustrating day. Your last post was another timely breath of fresh air for me. 🙂 Thanks!

      • Oh, btw–when I posted my blog post of my award in FB, I totally used Sally Fields’ speech–how funny is that?? You too can fly the trapeze–they have 5 schools around the nation! If I can do it, anyone can. So long as you believe in yourself. So glad I could help relieve some of your frustration!!! Happy Thanksgiving!

I am two days from finishing my 40 days to 40 journey. I have enjoyed it so much, I think I am going to start a first 40 days OF 40 journey and really drive my friends and family crazy with the daily posts! Perhaps I will add “try the trapeze” to the list of the Year of being 40. I could keep this going for a. long. time. 🙂

      • Now THAT is a fabulous idea for the next phase of your blog! As for what to add to your list, do whatever speaks to you–make sure it’s yours, all yours 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving! One of the many things I am grateful for is this new wonderful world of the blogging community! Cheers!

I completely agree about the blogging community. It feels a little like home. Happy Thanksgiving! Engage the day!
